Oh no Ashanti sings the song my godfather wrote!?!?1

She aint now Diana and she definitely aint no Stephanie and I dont wanna be hard on the girl, mind you I never thought she could sing, but uh well....here you be the the judge. I have too much negativity in my world to start talkin about Ashanti's singin lol. OH and yes my godfather, Charlie Smalls (may he rest in peace) wrote all the music for the Wiz except for "Brand New Day"! That was Luthers (-;

Wait Loon?!?!?

Is that really you?

And have you seen Brandy rap?

Hey before you judge...A for effort! lol and really Brandy cant do much wrong in my eyes especially when shes droppin the "S" bomb lol

Ahhh its been a sec I know but boy what catchin up we have to do

First and foremost...RIP MICHAEL JACKSON!!!! I saw him in concert during the "Bad" tour as a kid and it was a show unlike no other. Remember the female guitar player who hair lit up in lights!?!?!? And no I never got a chance to meet Michael but my godbrothers did lol. .....

Needless to say I have felt a slight void ever since last Thursday. He was apart of the soundtrack of my life. I cant believe he outlived all his older friends. Think about it. Elizabeth Taylor, Quincy Jones, Liza, Stevie, Dianna!?!? I bet they never would of thought their "young boy" (thats how I picture it in my mind lol) would be gone before them. So anyway so there has been of course some negative news (which i have tried to stay away from) and of course lots of love for Mike. I found some interesting video of Michael talking about his Blackness. And its ill because it makes me think of those stories that Aresenio and Eddie and even Dre and Vidal tell of how real Mike was. Check out the reality...

I apologize for not being around lately. Its been so much going on right? I mean life period for me has been at maybe one of its craziest. Crazier then when I was in college in ATL working at my college radio station and cocktail waitressing at The Gold Club all at the same time lol. And how about the rest of the world right now? Steve McNair? Michael? And now they not lettin the brown babies swim in the POOL?

But yet in the midst of so much mess there are certain things making me smile. Like the new Reflection Eternal video with Kweli and Res!

Talib Kweli + Hi Tek-Reflection Eternal -Back Again-Vid Premiere

\

Thanks for that Kanye! As a matter of fact while I was visiting Kanye he put me on to this lil jewel too...

How cool is that?!?!? I mean really? lol

Oh and The Tim Burton remake of "Alice in Wonderland" made me smile too! Check out the details and the pics! I love a good Burton/Depp Collaboration!

Those who have grown curiouser and curiouser about what the offbeat reinventor of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory might conjure up in his version of Alice in Wonderland can feast their eyes on this array of concept art and publicity images, due to hang in movie theaters this week to promote the March 5, 2010, release."It has been Burton-ized" is how producer Richard Zanuck describes the director's vision of the Lewis Carroll classic. Many elements are familiar, from the enigmatic Caterpillar (Alan Rickman) to the fierce Jabberwock (Christopher Lee). But none has been presented in this sort of visually surreal fashion."We finished shooting in December after only 40 days," Zanuck says. Now the live action is being merged with CG animation and motion-capture creatures, and then transferred into 3-D.The traditional tale has been freshened with a blast of girl power, courtesy of writer Linda Woolverton (Beauty and the Beast). Alice, 17, attends a party at a Victorian estate only to find she is about to be proposed to in front of hundreds of snooty society types. Off she runs, following a white rabbit into a hole and ending up in Wonderland, a place she visited 10 years before yet doesn't remember.Among those who welcome her back is the Mad Hatter, a part tailor-made for Johnny Depp as he collaborates with Burton for the seventh time. "This character is off his rocker," Zanuck says.Aussie actress Mia Wasikowska, 19, best known for HBO's In Treatment, has the coveted title role. "There is something real, honest and sincere about her," Zanuck says. "She's not a typical Hollywood starlet."There is the usual Burton-esque ghoulishness (Helena Bonham Carter's Red Queen, whose favorite retort is "Off with their heads," has a moat filled with bobbing noggins), but Zanuck assures most kids can handle it. "The book itself is pretty dark," he notes. "This is for little people and people who read it when they were little 50 years ago."

Oh and it made me smile to see Will and Jada supporting lil Jaden as he becomes the next "Karate Kid" (dont know how they gonna bring life back to that, but A for effort)

Oh and Trice made me smile too! lol

Wait Kelis broke and pregnant? Nas owns 5 homes!?!?!?

Im all confused! Sorry this is the first story I saw when I turned the computer on lol. According to Sources...

Kelis says that estranged husband Nas has cut her off without a penny--just as she is expecting their child this month. According to legal papers, rap star Nas is not paying any prenatal expenses and Kelis is flat broke. "I have run out of money," she said. Kelis is asking a judge to order Nas to pay spousal support, child support, all pregnancy-related expenses, and one half of all medical expenses after the child is born. She also wants $3,500 for the baby nurse after the child's birth, and $20,000 for strollers, cribs, and other baby supplies. Kelis says she is entitled to maintain the lifestyle she became accustomed to during their marriage. That was a lifestyle that involved owning expensive jewelery, like a diamond bracelet worth $190,000, a 9-carat, cushion-cut solitaire diamond engagement ring, and numerous watches "such as Cartier, Rolex, Frank Muller, and Chopard." The couple also owns five homes.
Nas has not yet responded.

Just another violent Saturday in Philly...

So Im on my favorite Philly website, duh Philly.com, and damn what a Saturday? Somebody leaped off a bridge?

Saturday was another violent day in Philadelphia:
* At 9:15 a.m., after four hours of negotiations, an alleged three-time bank robber jumped to his death from the Platt Bridge in South Philadelphia.
* At 7:52 p.m., a North Philadelphia man was fatally shot twice in the torso and once in the back, before his killer fled.
* At 9:59 p.m., a career criminal with 13 prior arrests was shot in the shoulder, trying to grab a patrolman's gun while fighting with him in Frankford.

I think its time to start of the week fresh! But wait lets go back real quick, because I heard it was a litte bit of a rowdy weekend. And not just the Black folks lol. I hear there was a COUNTRY music fest over there at the Tweeter Center (I cant spell that new name lol). And from what I hear those folks get it in...Parking lot dirty beyond belief and a couple found in the neighboring Campbell's Field "gettin it in" in the dugout getting it in! lol

And since Im keeping it local right now, biggups to the Philadelphi Daily News for this lil video acknowloging the cops that are vital to the community, those who actually care. Take a look at what a cop should be...

And just because I like to balance the good with the bad. Question, what would you think that the 3000th Mural painted in Philly would represent?

Answer: The Tuskegee Airmen! As it should be! Go check it out at 39th Street near Chestnut!

Ahhhh its been far too long since I have blogged FOR REAL

And I must admit its all my fault. Damn that love bug! Well not to worry my priorties a back in order and boy are there a lot of things to cover, but first things first! Happy Black Music Month! I know we are half way in but in the words of Sir Luther "its neva too much neva too much". So I would like to first salute Mr. Bill Withers.

A man I met this year at the Legends of R&B Pioneer awards. And he is cool as hell! Now I must first say that visually the man keeps gettin better (cutie pie) and well if youre not familiar with the music COME ON! LOVELY DAY! LEAN ON ME! GRANDMA's HANDS! Ok sorry got a littl excited, but look him up. My favorite Bill Withers cuts are "Can we pretend" and "I want to spend the night". Below is a trailer for an upcoming documentary about his life. Looks really cool....

On to TV...

So due to my slacking we havent had any discussion about our favorite shows lately, but no worries because the ones that count are all coming back on now! Like what? Are you crazy!?!?!? Like "WEEDS"! Season opener debuted last Sunday, but in the mix of the Roots Picnic
The White Party and well other drama. I had to watch it on ON Demand but for those who missed it, just CLICK HERE !!! You know I got you, by the way for all my "Weeds" disbelievers. You know those that believe it is out of the scope of reality, well somebody better tell Mexico that..16 tunnels found so far! Check IT out! Oh and dont forget we got "Weeds" and "True Blood" this Sunday!

Cant wait to hit the cuddle couch!

When the monster's photo was released some neighbors recognized the monster walking down the street and the neighborhood gots to kickin some ass.....For all my sensitive at heart...he's still alive but hes in critical condition...Go Kengsington! Way to protect our babies!

Man this new Kanye video is sayin SOOOO MUCH

without saying anything at all....Late pass from my internet snobs! Im just seeing the new video for my FAVORITE song off the newest Kanye album, "Paranoid"and I would have never guessed....Rhianna! You will see very little Kanye, but whoa! Between the lyrics of the song, what Rhianna is actually emoting (aint that a word? lol) in the video ANNND the drama that is going on in reality, well needless to say....Good video Kanye! And you didnt even need a big budget...question is What is Chris Brown thinking?

Why the death of Mike Tyson's daughter hit me a little harder then expected...

So how about this for a strange coincidence. When me and the Mr. got back from vacay Sunday, we stopped my my homie dameadelphia's before going home. It was there that I got introduced to Exodus (Mike's daughter) because we had a "special" screening of the new Mike Tyson documentary (Produced by Carmelo Anthony), "Tyson". The documentary has already received awards from outlets as impressive as Sundance. Let me say this about the documentary.....FANTASTIC! Definitely an honest look from the perspective of Mike Tyson and a better understanding of who is his. He makes it clear that everything he does now is for his children and the introduction into Mike as a daddy is led by Exodus in the documentary. There is a scene where Exodus (only around 2 or so) is sparring with her daddy. When you watch, its kind of ill the way this little girl knows her stance and delivers her punches as well as putting her hands in the air in victory as she "knocks daddy out". Who would have thought 2 days later this beautiful girl would be gone. I kept thinking what if she was on the treadmill trying to train like daddy! Man my heart goes out to Mike Tyson and anyone else who has had to bury a child waaaay too soon. If you watch the trailer below at around 1:20 you get a glimpse of the scene between Exodus and her daddy....

Can you feel a Brand new daaaaaay

What Def Poets in the White House?

Dangit I LOVE MY FIRST FAMILY!!

While it might be bad form to, say, note that Barack Obama is cooler than the Dalai Lama and knows politics better than your mama, the event has some serious literary folks waxing poetic.
“It’s an incredible honor any time to receive an invitation from the
White House and President Obama,” said Arizona Rep. Krysten Sinema, who is among the 100 people invited to attend the event. “But to see our nation’s talent and be a part of history at the first-ever White House Poetry Slam is amazing. I’m very excited to be a part of this moment.”
The performer’s list for the hip event includes
James Earl Jones; poet Mayda Del Valle, novelist Michael Chabon, jazz musicians ELEW and Esperanza Spalding and playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda. The poetry slam is actually an Obama campaign promise coming to fruition. Last year, Obama announced that he and First Lady Michelle Obama intended to bring poets and musicians into the White House to “open up the White House and remind people this is the people’s house.” The Obamas have already hosted a number of cultural events at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, including concerts by Fergie, Stevie Wonder, Sweet Honey in the Rock and Earth Wind & Fire.

So was I the only one watching the White House Corresponspants dinner?

I ask because ohhhhhhhh Wanda Sykes killed it! Now here's a question. Why do people hire comedians and then get mad when they get offended by jokes? Now I looooove me some Wanday Sykes. Shes represents DC to the fullest and hey who doesnt like a women to comes out of the closet on stage at a Gay marriage rally and even lets the crowd know that yes SHE is married to a woman! (a white woman...not that it matters, but makes it more interesting dont it?) Anyway so I'm watching it with my mom and my grandmother cracking up, BUT I noticed towards the end as Wanda really started givin it, they never showed the President's face! She was calling folks out and its funny because at the end of Wanda's bit, the President gave her a very polictally correct hug, but Michelle hugged Wanda like, "Girl that sh** was hilarious" lol WATCH!!! I love my First Family lol

Dammit dont you hate when some good gossip interrupts your productive day!

Well now that mine is interrupted, might as well interrupt yours too lol...YEEEOOOOO I might be late, but did you hear about La La getting gettin kicked out of her baby daddy's game!?!?!? PS if you dont know that La La's baby daddy is Carmelo Anthony then uh....buy a vowel lol....anyway so whats going on with the Playoffs man? Mark Cuban cussed out a player's mother? Another players girlfriend getting heckled? Well at least La La made it to TMZ!
Check IT out
But here is the story straight from LaLa..
“Obviously the play-off games bring out the best and the worst in fans but what happened on Monday night with the racial slurs/threats, verbal attacks on my son and physical attacks to myself by irate fans was unacceptable,” states LaLa. “The fans were totally out of control. What the cameras captured was me defending myself and didn’t show the abuse that was taking place.”

Just got in DC!

Look at grandmommy waiting for me on the stoop!

So before I'm off to DC to see mommy...

I stopped by Jermiah Trotters car wash over in jersey and maybe I'm
sheltered and in exposed but this ain't your ordinary cat wash.

A Great Day for the Car Wash...

You got your "Game" up?

Well just in case you know I gotchu! "The Game" continues to be my Favorite sitcom (and "30 Rock" lol). And it will be sad day when it dissapears so lets not let it!

And on top of having a group of Great actors, they are actually doing Great things too. Found this on Bossip, biggups to Wendy Raquel Robinson for getting the kids prepared to be great actors! check this out!

Man how come when I graduated we didnt have fun speakers like these?

Google cofounder Eric Schmidt will be the keynote speaker at the May 17 commencement of the University of Pennsylvania. The same day, Penn alum John Legend will address the School of Arts and Sciences undergraduate ceremony. The day before, Attorney General Eric Holder will address the graduates of Penn's Jerry Lee Center of Criminology

DC comes out of the closet!......even more lol

Washington D.C.'s city council voted unanimously on Tuesday in favor of recognizing same-sex marriages from other states by a vote of 12-0. For the full story go here. Being from DC when I read this I had a moment. DC has long been a mecca for not only the Black Gay and Lesbian community, but the undercover Black gay male community as well. Some say that is the reason for DC's outstanding HIV rate (acccording to a recent article in the Washington Post 1 out of 50 people in DC are HIV positive). This has hit home in more ways then you know. I forget why I was writing this ......well maybe if marriage becomes acceptable it will trickle down to homosexuality being more accepted in the Black community and then will that rid us of the "undercova brotha"? Cuz he gots ta go! A true "Killer of the Black Community"!!!! Guilty!

Ok so I havent really brought this up but you know I feel some type of way...

about Lil Kim being off DWTS!!! She was a damn front runner! Jewel's husband should of been gone! Funny story though on a side note, so I leave the house as the decision is coming down. I was running to the store, but my mom calls me all pissed like, "LAIYA! I AM PISSED!" Right then I knew what was wrong. I said "No mommy they kicked her off?" She was like "I'm never watching this Sh** AGAIN!" lol. It was so funny (mom my always roots for the black person no matter what lol). Anyway, I couldnt wait to see my homie Regis finally get to meet Lil Kim (hes been rooting for her the whole time!). So this morning I woke up and there was my girl Kim on "Regis and Kelly" ! Finallly they meet!

Did you see the cool ass dude that robbed the bank this morning?

It happened in South Philly at 3rd and Oregon. A white Kangol at 9:30 in the morning and he got away! lmao....Its gonna be a long summer

Aww yeah got some cool events you might wanna mark down! Time to have some Summer FUN!

Now I usually dont use this blog as a "party promoting" site, but if you've been loggin on or you just know me, then you know I have no problem bigging up stuff that I KNOW to be fun or cool. That being said, my homie Stacey has been throwing some really cool events for quite a few years now and she just emailed me some of her upcoming stuff and uh well can you say Pete Rock, 9th Wonder and Questlove just to name a few! All part of some good Summer Fun! So put it on your google calendar and Ill see ya there! lol

Man give it up to my girl Lil Kim real quick and I see you Dutch!

I dont know if you watch "Dancing With The Stars", but she is the front runner! I just think that is so cool, but anyway yes she is workin on music at the same time. She aint no dummy and that show gives ya hella promo! So Im so happy to show yall some behind the scenes footage of Kim's newest video, "Download" which features Charlie Wilson and T-Pain, but its also good to see some Philly in the video and Dutch (formerly of Major Figgas) has been quietly working with Kim behind the scenes for a few years now so check him out too making cameos and what not!

Footage from the set of Lil Kim's video for "Download"

Man I wasnt gonna post this new Maxwell song

cuz I was on some snobby "I played that song on the radio a year ago and nobody remembers!", but then I found the VIDEO and all my negative thoughts just lifted..ahhhhhh Maxwell..on a side note why is that most of our top crooners are rumored to be gay? Ok back to goodness...

Hey guys so if youre interested in the current state of radio...

509 people were let go from Clear Channel Communications today. Clear Channel has the largest collection of radio stations in the country. In total since Jan 20th, 2500 positions are gone. As of 2 days ago 6 more radio personalities were let go from The Beat, 6! So I would like to shout outs to all my radio folks and really all my folks in the struggle. Trust its being felt EVERYWHERE! Hey how do ya think I have the time to type this lol

Man Blame it on the Alcohol Fo Real

Biggups to my Big/lil sis (cuz she is younger then me) Aja otherwise known as the better half of Kindred the Family Soul. We went out for drinks last night and I was gonna try to stop by Silk City and see the debut of Zoe Kravitz and her new band, but if you are lucky enough to get a few hours with a singing, married, entropronegro (shout out to the Kulture Shop) mother of 5 (all before the age of 30 say word! and Michelle Obama!!!) well you do like i did and you drink! lol

Anyway back to this Zoe Kravitz band which I hear was co founded by one of the most talented young men I've ever met, Khari Mateen(black guy in the pic lol), look at the credits for the last Roots project (hope I spelled it right Khari!) anyway biggups to my homie Tayyib for providing the pics on Twitter (did you know they have their own photo app!?!?!). But I still wanna know if the girl can sing????? Its like she dont exist on youtube lol or at least not soberly lol, but I love her style! What? Lisa Bonet mixed with Lenny? Just sounds funky by formula alone lol ! Oh PS if youre curious about Ms. Kravitz as well, I hear she will be making her BIG Philly debut at the Roots' Picnic, which I hear has already sold over 3,000 tickets!!!

Tuesday, April 28, 2009

Ok so Im sitting here getting ready for a meeting..

(TV Project comin...shh) and Im on one of my Favorite blogs, Kanye duh, and Im watching this video he posted of De La.....

Which made me start to thinkin about my favorite performers and shows. Cuz lets be honest there aint alot of GREAT performers these days. Especially when we starts to talkin about Hip Hip. I think its facinating how some of the greatest lyricists are often the most boring performers. What you disagree? Have ya never seen Nas or Jay live? ZZZZZZZ anyway so enough of the negativity how about we spotlight our favorite Hip Hop SHOWS!!! Ok Ill start and you know where I gots to go first cuz they never dissapoint! The Roots!!!!!! Even though Quest's Twitters are clogging up my phone right now, for (sh** Im gettin old)17 years these guys have been in my life uping the standard of live performance and challenging anyone in the arena. Now they are the HIGHLIGHT of your late night TV watching everynight and still manage to do a live show a week for the peoples! Come on now give it up!

Oh only live footage though!...here are a couple of my favs

Oh this next one I love cuz of what they did to the beginnin of the song. I like when the F**k SH** up a little! Peep Ahmir's sing skills

Oh but this next one is one of my FAVORITES! Let me tell you why!
#1 I was there !!!
#2 It was filmed in my hometown, DC! and taped by MTV 2 for that $2 Bill show that i thought was really cool and
#3 What Jill does to HER chorus is RE DAMN DICRILOUS! WATCH oh and congrats to Jill and her new little one (hope i dont mess up the name) Jet Hamilton Roberts!

Tomorrow my #2 pick for best live HIP HOP performance...feel free to chime in !
